Wolfpack Places 10th at Schenkel Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. – The NC State men’s golf team completed play at the prestigious 2014 Chris Schenkel Invitational on Sunday afternoon. Following three days of play at the Forest Heights Country Club, the Wolfpack placed 10th with a final score of 881 (+17).
In the 15-team field, NC State placed ahead of Kentucky, Florida, North Texas, and ACC foes Duke and Maryland. Host Georgia Southern took top honors at the competition, being one of just three teams to shoot at or below par at the tournament.
Carter Page was the top finisher for the Wolfpack, shooting a three-round score of 221 (+5). The sophomore shot a 73 on the final day of the competition to end in a tie for 32nd place among the field of 90 golfers.
Stanhope Johnson was not far behind, ending the tournament with a 223 (+7) to end tied for 49th.
James Chapman (T60), David Cooke (T60), and Logan Harrell (T65) rounded things out for the Wolfpack at the tournament. Chapman and Cooke finished with scores of 226 (+10) while Harrell ended the tournament with a 227 (+11).
Cooke improved each day at the tournament. The sophomore shot an 82 on his first run through the course but followed this up with a 73 on Saturday and a 71 on Sunday.
NC State will next be in action at the 2014 Hootie at Bulls Bay. The three-day tournament will be played from March 23-25 at the Bulls Bay Country Club in Awendaw, S.C.
