AWENDAW, S.C. - The NC State men's golf team was in fourth when play was stopped due to darkness on Monday at The Hootie at Bulls Bay Golf Club.
Playing two rounds on Monday at the par 72, 7,363-yard layout, the Wolfpack finished just before daylight gave way on the South Carolina coast. NC State is at 18-over 594 through 36 holes. LSU tops the team leader board at +13, Duke is second at +14 and Missouri is third at +16 with players still left on the course that need to finish the second round.
Junior All-American Albin Choi is tied for the lead at 2-under 142. He birdied three-consecutive holes in round two to take sole possession of first, but a late bogey dropped him into a tie with Duke's Mads Soegaard.
Choi struggled on his first nine holes of the morning with a 4-over 39, but nearly made all of that up with one swing when his 3-wood from 266 yards found the bottom of the cup for a double eagle 2 at the par-5 sixth hole.
Toss in a pair of birdies on the back nine and he wound up at even-par 72 and tied for third after 18 holes.
The No. 9 ranked Amateur in the world, Choi will have his sights set on his fifth tournament title of the season.
Senior Mitch Sutton shot even par over 36 holes and is fourth among a field of 75 competitors. After a 1-over 73 in the morning, the Canadian native fired a 71 that featured five birdies in the afternoon.
Junior Logan Harrell is tied for sixth at 3-over 147 after rounds of 74 and 73.
Freshmen Chad Cox and Carter Page are tied for 71st and 74th, respectively at +17 and +20.
Round two will continue at 7:30 a.m., on Tuesday morning. The third round will be a shotgun start beginning between 9:30-10 a.m.
