HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. - The NC State men's golf team wrapped up competition in its annual home tournament, the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate, on Saturday with a fourth place finish, ahead of 12 higher-ranked teams, including No. 10 Tennesse, at the par 72 Devils Ridge Golf Club. Taylor Crosby tied for second place to lead Wolfpack with an eight-under-par score.
Duke beat Wake Forest and Georgia Southern by one stroke to win the 15-team event with a 16-under total and Aron Price from Georgia Southern was the individual medalist at 14-under.
Crosby followed up a first round 69, with a five-under second round. Banks Wood came in three-under for the Pack, tying for 11th place. He carded a second round 69. Jerry Richardson tied for 33rd place at two-over along with teammate Andrew Byrd, a freshman playing as an individual. Garry Hill and Stephen Lewton both finished one stroke behind Richardson and Byrd. Jace Strandberg and Jeremy Langdale also competed for NC State.
Originally scheduled for 36 holes on Friday, followed by a final round of 18 on Saturday, the tournament was shortened to 36 holes after thunderstorms cleared the course Friday evening, suspending play part way through the second round and cancelling the third round. Finishing the second round Saturday morning, the teams played through gusty winds.
