Logan Harrell Wins Wolfpack Spring Open

RALEIGH – Logan Harrell of the NC State men’s golf team made his last regular-season tournament at the Wolfpack’s home Lonnie Poole Golf Course a great one. The senior finished atop the leaderboard, carding a 67 (-5) to win the fourth annual Wolfpack Spring Open tournament by three strokes.
The 67 was Harrell’s season-best score and missed his career best by just one stroke. The native of Huntersville, N.C., tied atop the leaderboard with six birdies on 18 holes and held the best par three (2.60 strokes per hole) and par four (3.75 strokes per hole) averages at the tournament.
As a team, NC State finished fourth in the 15-team field with a team score of 298 (+10). No. 10 Virginia earned top honors, winning the tournament with a score of 292 (+4).
The 2014 Wolfpack Spring Open was shortened to just one round of play due to heavy rain on Friday night and into Saturday. The teams then battled through windy conditions on Sunday to complete the tournament.
David Cooke was the second finisher on the first of State’s two teams fielded at the tournament, as he tied for 26th place with a 76 (+4). James Chapman (T40th, 77 strokes), Andrew Decker (T48th, 78), and Carter Page (T59th, 80) rounded out the rest of NC State’s first team at the tournament.
The Wolfpack’s second team at the tournament placed 14th with a score of 319 (+31). This squad was led by a strong performance by Chad Cox, who finished tied for eighth with a 73 (+1).
Redshirt junior Christian Hawley tied for 75th at the tournament, shooting an 84 in the individual portion of the competition.
The Wolfpack will next be in action from April 25-27 at the 2014 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship. The three-day tournament will be played at Old North State Club in London, N.C.
