CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The NC State men's golf team lost to William & Mary by one stroke Sunday at the Cavalier Classic, tying for second place with the host team, Virginia. Taylor Crosby, who led the Wolfpack with a two-over-par score at the par-72 Birdwood Golf Club, tied for first place individually and lost a playoff to the Tribe's Gary Barton.

Crosby carded a one-under first round while Jerry Richardson shot par in the opening round. Richardson finished three-over to tie for third place. NC State had the lead on the 12-team field after the first two rounds Saturday, but William & Mary made a third round comeback despite windy conditions Sunday.

Stephen Lewton fired a two-over third round, an improvement of 10 strokes from his second round score. Banks Wood shot par in the first round and Gary Hill went one-under in the second round.

The Wolfpack, which added this tournament to its schedule just last week as makeup days for rounds rained out throughout this season and also to keep the momentum started in the last couple tournaments going, plus bolster the team's opportunity to receive an at-large bid to a NCAA Regional Championship.
