First Round Results | Second Round Tee Times
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The NC State men’s golf team is tied for seventh after Thursday’s opening round of the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional at U-M Golf Course. The Wolfpack fired a team score of 6-over 290.
Sophomore All-American Albin Choi fired a 2-under 69 and is tied for fifth, just two shots off the lead. He had a team-leading five birdies, including four in the first seven holes that got him to -4 for the day. Two late bogeys at Nos. 7 and 8 saw him fall off the pace a bit, but he did birdie No. 9 to finish strong.
Senior Mark McMillen bogeyed the opening three holes (Nos. 10-12), but rallied with birdies at 13, 18 and one on the front-nine at No. 5 to finish where he began at even-par and is tied for 15th. His 12 pars on the day ranked among the most in the field on Thursday.
Junior Mitchell Sutton opened with seven-consecutive pars, before finishing 17 and 18 going bogey-double-bogey to make the turn at +3. He answered back with birdies at 2, 7 and 9 to offset bogeys at 4 and 8 to finish at 2-over 73 and is tied for 31st.
Senior Chad Day is tied for 56th after shooting a 6-over 77 with a birdie at the par-4 sixth hole.
Seniors Graham Baillargeon finished at 8-over 79 and is tied for 65th. He was even through his first eight holes, but doubled 18, 4 and 6 and wound up eight-above-par over his final 10 holes.
Eighth-seed TCU owns an eight-stroke lead after shooting a 6-under 278. Third-seed Kent State is second at 2-over 286, while No. 7-seed Kennesaw State and fourth-seed Virginia are tied for third at 3-over 287.
Three players sit atop the individual leader board at 4-under 67 – Julien Brun (TCU), Joakim Mikkelsen (Baylor) and Anthony Paolucci (Southern Cal).
The low five teams at the regional and the low individual not on a qualifying team will advance to the NCAA Championship, to be held May 29-June 3 at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
NC State begins Friday’s second round at 8 a.m., off hole No. 10. The Wolfpack will play with Oklahoma State and Purdue.
