Sept. 24, 2013
SEASIDE, Calif. – The NC State men’s golf team completed the third and final round of play at the 2013 Saint Mary’s Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. Following 54 holes of play, the Wolfpack ended the tournament in 14th place among the 19-team field.
State shot a three-round score of 906 (+42) at the competition, which was hosted at the Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Courses. The two courses combined to create a very challenging environment for the 19 teams and 104 golfers, as only one team (California) and three golfers finished at or below par.
Two Wolfpack golfers shot their best rounds of the tournament on Tuesday. Carter Page (Waynesville, N.C.) shot a 73 (+1) to end with a three-round 225 and a tie for 38th place. Teammate James Chapman (Gastonia, N.C.) also carded a 73 on Tuesday, finishing the competition with a three-round score of 226 to end tied for 42nd.
Chapman recorded an eagle on the par-five 10th hole, shooting a three. The eagle was his third of the season, as he was one of just three golfers at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate to record two eagles on Sept. 14-15.
Logan Harrell (Huntersville, N.C.) was State’s next finisher, tying for 48th with a three-round score of 227. He was followed by Andrew Decker’s score of 230, a total which saw the junior tie for 62nd.
Stanhope Johnson (Greensboro, N.C.) rounded out the competition for the Wolfpack, shooting a three-round score of 236 to tie for 87th in the field.
NC State will next be in action on Monday, Oct. 7 when it hosts the Wolfpack Intercollegiate at Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh.
