After ending a successful fall season ranked in the top 20, according to all three major ranking systems, NC State will begin its spring season at the Puerto Rico Classic on Sunday.
The team enters the tournament with high expectations after being ranked most recently No. 17 according to the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, and No. 19 in both Golfstat and the Golf World/Nike Golf coaches’ poll. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will feature 18 holes each day and is being held at the Rio Mar Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico from February 20-22.
Representing the Pack in the Puerto Rico Classic will be Albin Choi, Brandon Detweiler, Mitchell Sutton, Chad Day, and Mark McMillen.

NC State ended its fall season with an impressive record finishing in the top-two in all four tournaments. The team took first in the Invitational at The Ocean Course out of 12 teams, with all six players finishing in the top-20 among the 72 golfers playing.
The Pack followed up three weeks later defending its home course with another win at the Wolfpack Invitational out of 17 teams.
Freshman Albin Choi ended his fall campaign ranked 30th in the individual standings, and has since moved up to 18th according to the Golfstat Cup standings. Choi won back-to-back events within a six-day period. He won the Wolfpack Intercollegiate at Lonnie Poole Golf Course leading his team to victory on Oct 5. He followed his first collegiate win with another first-place showing on Oct. 11 at Duke’s Rod Myers Invitational.
Senior Brandon Detweiler also had an impressive showing in the fall, ending the season ranked 40th. He has since moved up to 35th according to Golfstat. Detweiler took third in the GolfWeek’s Conference Challenge to highlight his fall season.
Following this weekend’s tournament in Puerto Rico, the Wolfpack will gradually move north over the spring season. Next up is the Rio Pinar Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
NC State will wrap up regular season play by hosting the Wolfpack Spring Invitational at Lonnie Poole Golf Course on April 16-17. One week later the Pack will head to the ACC Championship.
