March 13, 2014
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men’s golf team returns to action this weekend, traveling south to Statesboro, Ga., to compete at the 2014 Chris Schenkel Invitational.
The three-day tournament will be played at the Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro. One of the most historic tournaments on the men’s college golf landscape, the Chris Schenkel Invitational has witnessed top-10 finishes from notable professional golfers Bubba Watson, Scott Verplank, and NC State’s own Carl Pettersson, Justin Walters (2002 winner), and Matt Hill, among many others.
The 6,962-yard course will play a par of 72. Golfers from the 15 competing teams will play one round on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. In addition to host Georgia Southern, Wolfpack golfers will square off against competitors from College of Charleston, Florida, Georgia State, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Florida, North Texas, No. 22 Texas, No. 13 UAB, No. 7 UCF, and ACC foes Duke, Maryland, and No. 9 Virginia.
David Cooke will lead things off for the Pack on Friday, beginning his tee time at 10:30 a.m. He will be followed by teammates Carter Page (10:39), Stanhope Johnson (10:48), James Chapman (10:57), and Logan Harrell (11:06).
State is coming off a 10th-place finish at the Palmetto Intercollegiate earlier this week. The Wolfpack was led by Harrell, who placed eighth in the field of 90 golfers with a three-round score of 215 (+5). This marked the third top-10 finish of the senior’s career.
