NEW LONDON, N.C. – Junior Matt Hill came home with a third place finish at the 2010 ACC Men’s Golf Championship, played this weekend at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C.
Hill went into Sunday’s final round tied atop the leaderboard, but shot a two-over (74) in windy conditions in the final round to finish at seven-under (209) for the tournament. Hill came out with a birdie on the first hole of the day, but did not record another birdie the rest of the day.
As a team, the Pack finished in seventh place at two-over (866) for the tournament. On Sunday, NC State matched its first round score of one-under (287) with two golfers under-par.
Georgia Tech easily won its second straight ACC title, as the Yellow Jackets finished at 23-under (841) winning by 13 strokes over Virginia. The Yellow Jackets’s Chesson Hadley earned individual medalist honors as he won by two strokes at 10-under (206).
A pair of Pack golfers also brought home top-25 finishes along with Hill. Senior Adam Hogue finished the tournament in 15th place at one-under (215), while freshman Mitchell Sutton was at one-over (217) in 21st place.
Hogue shot a two-under (70) on Sunday. He had three birdies during the round, and was two-under on the front-nine.
Sutton had the Pack’s best round on Sunday, shooting a four-under (68). Sutton used a team-high six birdies in the final round and had just one hole over par, and finished strong by shooting a three-under on the back-nine.
Also for the Pack, senior Brad Revell finished at nine-over (225) and sophomore Mark McMillen was 12-over (228).
