Garth Mulroy to Compete at 2014 U.S. Open

RALEIGH – Set to be played at the famous Pinehurst No. 2, the 2014 U.S. Open Championship gets underway Thursday morning. Among the field of 156 participants is former NC State men’s golfer Garth Mulroy.
A native of South Africa, Mulroy qualified for the 2014 U.S. Open at the Walton Heath international sectional qualifier in Surrey, England. Mulroy has won seven tournaments in his career, including the 2011 Alfred Dunhill Championship on the European tour. Mulroy’s last major appearance was the 2012 British Open, a tournament at which he tied for 64th.
While at NC State, Mulroy had a very strong 2002 season. He tied for fourth at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships and earned All-ACC, All-District, and GCAA All-America honors.
Mulroy will tee off from the first hole at 12:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon. He is paired with Bobby Gates and Steven Alker.
