Molder Edges Sanchez
July 6, 2001
After upsetting defending champion David Eger at the prestigious North-South Amateur on Wednesday, former NC State golfer David Sanchez figured anything was possible, even a victory over the NCAA Player of the Year.
But on Thursday, Sanchez, who just finished his senior year with the Wolfpack, found out just why Georgia Tech's Bryce Molder is considered the best college golfer in the country.
In their quarterfinal match at Pinehurst No. 2, Molder held on to eliminate Sanchez 1 up.
After disposing of Sanchez, Molder went on to advance to the 36-hole final against Michael Sims by defeating Brandt Snedeker in the semifinals. Molder, a four-time All-America for Yellow Jackets, was four under par for the day.
