HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. - Former NC State golfer Fernando Mechereffe shot 14 under-par to tie for fifth place at the Skybrook Invitational July 20-22 at the par 72 Skybrook Golf Club in Huntersville, N.C. The former All-ACC performer for the Wolfpack carded a first round 66 and finished five strokes behind the winner to win $1,825 at the Tar Heel Tour event.
David Sanchez, another former NC State golfer playing Skybrook, finished one stroke behind Mechereffe to tie for seventh place and win $1,400. Garth Mulroy came in three strokes behind Sanchez to win $875 and Chris Mundorf also won prize money.
It was one of the strongest scoring weeks in tour history as seven players shot in the 60s for all three rounds, and all but one of the golfers making the cut finished below par. The cut after the second round was five-under 139, the lowest cut in tour history.
