Albin Choi was named Player of the Week by both Golf World and Golfweek Magazine after his six-stroke win at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate over the weekend for his fifth career victory.
The victory ties the junior from Toronto for second place in program history with Tim Clark and Nolan Mills, five back of former NCAA champ and fellow Canadian Matt Hill.
Choi began Sunday's final round with a three-shot advantage, and a closing 68 gave him his largest margin of victory among his five wins with NC State.
The win on Sunday at UNC Finley Golf Course gives him a victory at all three ACC campus courses in the Triangle. In a span of six days during his 2010 freshman season, he won the Wolfpack Intercollegiate at Lonnie Poole Golf Course and then the following weekend he won the Rod Myers Invitational at Duke Golf Course in Durham.
Choi will represent Canada at the 2012 World Amateur Team Championships in Antaylay, Turkey this October 4-7.
Choi was on the 2010 Canadian team that finished eighth among a field of 69 countries in Argentina. He is the fifth player in program history to compete in the WATC.
He will then rejoin his Wolfpack teammates for the Rod Myers Invitational at Duke for the two-day event on Oct. 13 and 14.
