Oct. 4, 2013
RALEIGH, N.C. – With the fall portion of the 2013-14 season rapidly drawing to a close, the NC State men’s golf team prepares to welcome 15 schools to the Lonnie Poole Golf Course for the two-day Wolfpack Intercollegiate on Oct. 7-8.
Over the course of two days, the 16 schools and a number of individual participants will play 54 holes on the par-72, 7,358-yard course. The first two rounds of competition (36 total holes) will be played on Monday with a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m. The tournament will then wrap up on Tuesday with tee times slated for 8 a.m.
The tournament is the first of three to be held at the course over the next nine months, as the Lonnie Poole GC will also host the Wolfpack Spring Open on April 19-20 and the NCAA Regionals later in the spring.
In addition to fellow Atlantic Coast Conference schools Boston College and Maryland, the following teams will be present at the competition: Arkansas-Little Rock, Campbell, Drexel, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Idaho, Jacksonville State, Navy, Rutgers, Temple, UNCG, UNCW and Western Carolina.
NC State has competed in two tournaments to this point in the fall season, finishing second at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate (Sept. 14-15) and 14th at the St. Mary’s Invitational (Sept. 23-24). Redshirt junior James Chapman (Gastonia, N.C.) has been the team’s most consistent golfer, finishing first on the team (T7th overall) at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate and second on the team (T42nd overall) at the St. Mary’s Invitational.
Through the first two tournaments, NC State golfers have combined to shoot nine rounds at or under par and earn five top-20 finishes. The Wolfpack was recognized for its strong team play in the Sept. 25 edition of the GolfWorld/Nike Golf Division I Coaches’ Poll, receiving 31 votes to be considered for the top 25.
Live scoring for the tournament will be provided at GolfStat.com and a full recap of each day’s action will be posted on GoPack.com.
