Hill Leads, Two Other Golfers Tied For Second at Bank of Tennessee
JOHNSON CITY, TENN. The NC State men’s golf team had an impressive first round at the Bank of Tennessee @ The Ridges Tournament Friday afternoon, as NC State holds the individual lead and two other Pack golfers are tied for second. As a team, the Pack currently sits in a tie for second place, with the Pack carding a score of 290 (+2) on the first day. East Tennessee State shot a 288 to grab the early lead.
Sophomore Matt Hill currently leads the field by one stroke, and he is closely followed by senior Darren Blair and junior Brad Revell who are each tied for second just one stroke back.
Hill led the way for the Pack in the first round. The nation’s top rated golfer thus far, shot a 70 and finished at two-under par. Hill torched the front nine, shooting a 32 through nine holes, with four birdies, including one on three straight holes. Hill would finish the day with a team-high five birdies, after recording one on the final hole.
Blair and Revell are both near the top of the leaderboard, as both shot a 71 and are each at one-under after the first round.
After shooting a 38 on the front nine, Blair came back strong and finished with a 33 on the final nine holes. Blair’s day featured an eagle on the par-four No. 13, and he tallied three birdies as well.
Revell also had a strong showing on the final nine holes, shooting a 34 compared to a 37 on the front nine. Revell tied Hill with his five birdies on the day, including one on three straight holes (No. 14-16).
The Pack’s final scoring round of the day was sophomore Brandon Detweiler’s six-over par (78), as he finished with a pair of birdies.
Also competing for the Pack, junior Kent Copeland finished the first round at seven-over par (79). Despite four birdies, Copeland carded scores of bogey or over on the final two holes after going into No. 17 at two-over.
The Pack will be in second round action tomorrow, with the third and final round scheduled for Sunday.
