RALEIGH, N.C. - Jacob McBride, of Hartville, Ohio, has signed a national letter of intent to compete for the NC State men's golf program, said head coach Richard Sykes.
McBride is the No. 16 ranked junior player in the country according to Junior Golf Scoreboard, and the top rated player in the state of Ohio.
"I'm excited to welcome Jacob to the Wolfpack family," said Sykes. We are proud to continue the tradition of bringing in talented golfers to NC State and Jacob is certainly one of the best in junior golf right now."
Last month, the Northeast Ohio Golf Coaches Association named McBride to its all-district team. He finished third at the state tournament at Ohio State's Scarlet Course
A senior at Uniontown Lake High School, McBride won the 2011 AJGA Junior at Steelwood in Loxley, Alabama by four shots, and tied for second at the AJGA Cleveland Junior Open later that year.
McBride was a member of the victorious East squad at the AJGA Wyndham Cup, also in 2011. During that competition he recorded his first-career ace with a low, cutting four-iron on a par-3, 190-yard hole.
In 2010, he brought home four tournament titles, including the Optimist International at PGA National. McBride also won the NJGT Easter Event in Statesville, N.C., the PGA Junior Series in Lexington, Ky., and the Ohio Junior Pub Links in Canton, Ohio.
