In his first year as a volunteer assistant with the Wolfpack, Steve Shak brings a wealth of experience to the program as well as great character and work ethic.
Shak was the number one overall pick in the 2000 MLS SuperDraft, selected by the New York/New Jersey MetroStars out of UCLA, where he won a national championship in 1997. Shak has nine years of playing experience at various levels.
He spent six seasons as an assistant coach with the Charlotte Eagles.
"When we have people join our staff, we want them to bring a similar world view with different backgrounds and skill sets," said NC State head coach Kelly Findley. "Steve fits that mold very well. He has great character and work ethic, a committment to excellence, and his experiences as a player will help add to the depth of our staff."
