Kollie's Two Scores Lead Men's Soccer Past #13 Boston College
Sept. 30, 2011
Raleigh, N.C. - Freshman forward Zabarle Kollie netted a pair of goals, including the gamewinner in the 87th minute, as the NC State men's soccer team upset #13 Boston College, 2-1, Friday night at Dail Soccer Field.
NC State (4-4-2, 1-2 ACC) struck first in the 10th minute. Kollie collected an errant pass from the Boston College defense, which resulted in a breakaway and his first collegiate goal at the 9:26 mark.
Boston College (7-3, 1-2 ACC) tied things up in the 29th minute. After a Pack foul, the Eagles' Kyle Bekker took a free kick from 30 yards that bounced in the penalty area and found the back of the net at the 28:47 mark.
Both squads notched three shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.
The action picked up on the offensive end in the second half of play, but it was Kollie once again finding the back of the net for the winner.
Chandler Knox started a counterattack and found freshman Matt Ingram. Ingram took the ball deep into BC territory, and slotted a pass to Kollie who calmly chipped home the winning goal at the 86:02 mark.
NC State held a slight 12-11 edge in shots. Pack keeper Fabian Otte made three saves in the Pack's net.
NC State will be on the road for a pair of games this week. The Pack will travel to Campbell Tuesday night, and then play at Duke next Friday night.
