Jan. 13, 2011
RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State defender Tyler Lassiter was drafted in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft by the New York Red Bulls in the second round on Thursday. Lassiter was the 30th selection in the draft overall.
Lassiter, from Wake Forest, N.C., started every game he played in during his four-year Wolfpack career, a total of 73 games. This past season, Lassiter led the Pack in points (18) and assists (6), while tying for the team lead in goals (6). He was an All-ACC second-team selection.
The Pack has had a handful of former players drafted over recent years. In 2006, the Pack had Denver, Colo., natives Aaron King and John Queeley both selected in the MLS draft, Haddon Kirk was picked by Utah in 2007, and El Hadj Cisse was drafted by Chivas USA in 2008. Last year, Korede Aiyegbusi was a second round selection, drafted by the Kansas City Wizards.
