NC State soccer travels to Durham this weekend for two games at the John Rennie Nike Invitational. The Wolfpack opens the weekend at 5 p.m., Friday against Delaware, before closing with a Noon matchup against Santa Clara on Sunday.
State (2-0-0) scored a pair of wins over the opening weekend, smothering Liberty 2-0 in the season opener before rallying to knock off Mercer 2-1 in overtime of the Pack's home opener.
A Wolfpack win over No. 39 Delaware (0-1-0) would grant NC State its first 3-0 start since 2009. If the Pack can string together a pair of wins, it would mark State's first 4-0-0 start since 1987. Sunday opponent Santa Clara (0-1-0) enters the weekend ranked No. 34 in the latest TopDrawerSoccer.com rankings.
Nazmi Albadawi and Monbo Bokar have provided the scoring punch for NC State this season, each scoring a pair of goals over the first two contests. Albadawi also chipped in an assist in the Wolfpack's win over Mercer. Alex Martinez leads the squad with two assists.
Goalkeeper Fabian Otte represents the last line of a defensive unit that has performed admirably thus far. Otte notched a shutout in the first game of the year, and allowed one goal against Mercer. In that comeback win, State's defense tightened over the final 30 minutes of regulation and five minutes of extra time to allow the Wolfpack offense an opportunity to rally.
