Men's Soccer to Play in Duke/adidas Classic
RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State men’s soccer team will make the short trip to Durham, N.C., this weekend to take part in the 2008 Duke/adidas Classic at Duke’s Koskinen Stadium. The Wolfpack (0-0-1) will take on American on Friday at 5:00 p.m., and then face No. 16 Harvard on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
The Wolpack will only be playing its second game of the season. NC State tied Mercer last weekend, 1-1, in the first game at the new NC State Soccer Stadium.
Trasnfer Federico Nachmann scored the Pack’s goal in the 65th minute off an assist from fellow transfer Chrystel Bakong, and Will Mackvick earned his first start in goal and finished with three saves.
The Wolfpack’s lineup last weekend featured only three returning starters from the 2007 squad.
American is off to a 1-1 start in 2008, after competing in the DC College Cup last weekend. The Eagles earned a 5-0 win over Howard, then fell it overtime 1-0 to George Mason. American was 6-9-3 last year, but return 10 of 11 starters and 17 total lettermen.
This weekend marks Harvard’s first games of the season. The Crimson were 12-4-2 last season, and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Harvard returns its top two scorers form last season, including preseason All-American forward Andre Akpan.
