No. 14 NC State hosts No. 1 Maryland Friday night at Dail Soccer Stadium beginning at 7 p.m. and carried live online by ESPN3.
The Wolfpack (6-0) currently enjoys its best start since the 1982 season, and could equal the program record set by that squad with a win on Friday. The Terrapins (3-0-1) enter the contest as one of the four remaining undefeated teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The Pack hopes that junior Alex Martinez continues his outstanding play. Martinez scored three goals over the weekend to earn National Team recognitions from TopDrawerSoccer.com, CollegeSoccerNews.com, and CollegeSportsMadness.com.
Maryland brings a pair of MAC Hermann Trophy watch list candidates in defender Taylor Kemp and midfielder John Stertzer. The Terps entered the season as the preseason favorites to take the ACC crown.
NC State and Maryland represent the two highest scoring offenses in the conference. State has 18 goals through six matches to lead the ACC, and the Terps represent the only team averaging more goals per game at 3.75.
The Wolfpack’s last victory over Maryland came September 25, 2005 with a 1-0 decision in Raleigh. Maryland leads the all-time series between the two clubs 44-19-6.
