NC State heads to Charlottesville on Friday night at 7 p.m. to take on Virginia in the Cavaliers' ACC home opener.
The Wolfpack (3-1, 1-1 ACC) looks to rebound from a 1-0 setback at home last Friday against No. 9 Clemson. State outshot the Tigers 17-6, but could not rally from the one-goal deficit set in the opening minute of the contest.
Virginia (2-3, 0-2) hosts the Pack in its ACC home opener after suffering a pair of conference road losses to Wake Forest and Clemson. The Cavaliers bounced back with a 3-0 victory over No. 23 George Mason on Tuesday in Charlottesville.
All 11 starters have remained the same for State through four matches, developing a chemistry that has translated into stifling defense. Goalkeeper Fabian Otte has been the anchor of that defense, holding opponents to a 0.47 GAA while collecting 12 saves and a pair of shutouts.
The Pack has had scoring contributions from all over the field early in 2013. Nick Surkamp, Alex Martinez, Davi Ramos, Holden Fender, and Clement Simonin have one goal each for the Wolfpack offense. Gbenga Makinde has a pair of assists, while Nazmi Albadawi, Danny DiPrima, Simonin, and Martinez have added one each.
As a team, State has outshot its opponents 78-34 on the year, and landed 30 shots on goal to opponents' 12. Scoring chances have been plentiful thanks to a 32-14 lead on corners for the Pack versus its opposition.
The Pack has not allowed more than one goal in a match this season.
