Men's Soccer Hosts No. 3 Virginia Saturday
Raleigh, N.C. The NC State men’s soccer returns to home action this weekend, as the Pack will host No. 3 Virginia this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Method Road. Admission is free to all fans.
The Wolfpack currently stands at 3-2-1 on the season, and 0-1 in conference play. NC State has been off since last weekend’s narrow 1-0 defeat to North Carolina.
The Wolfpack defense has performed well this season, allowing only four goals in the first six games. Keeper Sophomore Christopher Widman has played all 560 minutes in the Pack’s net, and has recorded two shutouts and has not given up more than one goal in a single came. NC State has made a couple of changes to its back line over the last couple of games, as senior Hugh Croni has been pushed up into the midfield and sophomore Orry Powers has taken is spot as a central defender. Also, freshman Lucas Carpenter has seen increased playing time as an outside defender.
The Cavalier will be playing their first ACC contest of the season, but hold a 5-1 record overall. Virginia is ranked No. 3 nationally in the NSCAA Coaches Poll, and No. 4 in Soccer America’s Poll. Chris Tierney is second in the ACC with nine points thus far, while forward Yannick Reyering leads the team with four goals,
