    Men's Soccer Draws With #3 Virginia, 2-2

Raleigh, N.C. The NC State men’s soccer team earned a hard fought draw with No. 3 Virginia, 2-2, Saturday afternoon at Method Road. The Wolfpack (3-2-2, 0-0-1 ACC) struck first in the 17th minute and held the lead at the half. The Cavaliers (5-1-1, 0-0-1 ACC) answered with two goals in just over three minutes, before NC State scored the equalizer in the 69th minute. The two squads would play the remaining 20 minutes of regulation and 20 more minutes of overtime with neither netting the game winner.

NC State got on the scoreboard first in the 17th minute. Sophomore Alan Sanchez controlled the ball in the middle of the field and found classmate Jorge Mora on the right wing. Mora dribbled into the UVA penalty box and slotted a pass right in front of the net. Senior El Hadj Cisse got his boot to the ball, and back-heeled home the goal at the 16:45 to give NC State the lead, which it held through halftime.

Just over 10 minutes into the second half, Virginia would strike with back-to-back goals. Jonathan Villanueva crossed a low pass into the Pack penalty area, and Chase Neinke slotted the shot into the net at the 57:57 mark to tie up the score.

Just over three minutes later, Virginia was awarded a free kick from about 20 yards out. Yannick Reyering struck a low shot into the corner of the Pack net to put UVA ahead 2-1 at the 61:04.

NC State would answer, with the game tying score in the 69th minute. Senior Hugh Cronin played the ball into Sanchez in the center of the field once again, and Sanchez found senior Ernesto Di Laudo to his right. Di Laudo put his shot on goal, and it bounced off the left post and into the net to tie the score at 2-2 at the 68:36 mark.

Neither team could find a gamewinner, as after 110 minutes of action the game ended 2-2.

Both teams played a physical game, which saw a combined 46 fouls and nine yellow cards.

The Wolfpack will return to home action this Wednesday afternoon, as NC State will host Longwood at 4:00 p.m. at Method Road.
