Men's Soccer Blanks Maine on PK
Raleigh, N.C. – The NC State men’s soccer team picked up a 1-0 win Wednesday afternoon over visiting Maine at Method Road. Freshman Alan Sanchez converted a penalty kick in the third minute of the contest for the game’s lone score. The Wolfpack (4-6-1) also hit the post twice in the contest against the Black Bears (0-12).
The Pack would score the lone goal in the first half. Freshman Jorge Mora was fouled inside the penalty box, and NC State was rewarded a penalty kick. Fellow freshman Alan Sanchez took the kick and converted the kick for his fifth goal of the season in the third minute of action.
NC State almost struck again 13 minutes into the game, when Mora took a right-footed blast from about 25-yards that struck the crossbar. The Pack held the advantage in shots at the half, 5-1.
Neither team had many scoring chances in the second 45 minutes, the best was when NC State’s El Hadj Cisse hit the post with just under five minutes left.
Christopher Widman got the start for NC State and recorded two saves for his second shutout of the season.
NC State will return to home action this Sunday afternoon, hosting ACC rival Virginia Tech in the Charlie Bryant Game at 2:00 p.m. at Method Road.
