    State Hosts UNC Friday

    Oct. 25, 2012

NC State soccer collides with No. 4 North Carolina, Friday at Dail Soccer Field and on ESPN3 beginning at 7 p.m.

The Wolfpack (9-7, 1-5 ACC) dispatched Adelphi 2-0 on Tuesday, in preparation for this weekend's ACC clash. Junior Alex Martinez scored a goal and added an assist to boost his points total to 25 for the year, good for second in the conference. Martinez sits third in the ACC with nine goals, and second with seven assists.

North Carolina (12-2-1, 4-1-1 ACC) dropped Campbell 3-0 during the week, responding from a 1-0 overtime loss at Maryland last Friday. The Tar Heel offense will be led by Andy Craven and Martin Murphy, each coming in with five goals to their credit. Danny Garcia leads the squad with six assists.

NC State outranks North Carolina in every offensive category outside of shots, but the Tar Heels boast the ACC's leading defense (0.26 GAA). The Pack ranks third in the conference in goals (28), assists (23), and points (79).

In the last meeting between these two, UNC prevailed 4-0 in the 2011 ACC Tournament. State's last victory in the series came in 2006, when the Pack knocked off the then-No. 1 ranked Heels 3-1 in Chapel Hill.
