Men's Tennis Falls 4-0 at No. 7 Kentucky
Jan. 27, 2012 LEXINGTON, Ky. – N.C. State’s No. 57 men’s tennis team suffered it first loss of the season in a 4-0 setback to No. 7 Kentucky in the opening round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at Kentucky’s Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon. The Wildcats, led by a pair of top 15 players, won two closely contested doubles matches to win the first point of the match. At No. 1 doubles, NC State’s Julian Sullivan and Sean Weber took Kentucky’s Eric Quigley and Panav Jha into extra games before falling 9-8 (10-4) win in the decisive match. Tom Jomby and Anthony Rossi toppled the Wolfpack’s Dominic Hodgson and Matt Thomson 8-5 at No. 2 doubles, while Robbie Mudge and Jaime Pulgar were leading in their No. 3 match against Alex Musialek and Alejandro Gomez when the match was discontinued. In singles action, No. 5 ranked Quigley defeated Pulgar, 6-3, 6-2, while No. 13 Musialek topped Hodgson, 6-2, 6-2 and No. 36 Rossi beat Sullivan, 6-4, 6-4. The match between Jomby and Mudge was stopped after the completion of the other three singles matches. The Wolfpack (4-1) will now play the loser of Friday’s second match between No. 22 Tulsa and No. 58 East Tennessee State on Saturday at 10 a.m, while Kentucky faces the winner at 1 p.m. A full recap of the NC State match will be posted on GoPack.com after its completion, with periodic updates on Twitter as well (@PackMensTenns).
