Wolfpack Men's Tennis Impressive In Win Over Spiders, 5-2

Raleigh, N.C. - R.J. Murray, Will Shaw, and Val Banada won their singles matches for the second straight match in helping NC State to a 5-2 win over Richmond on Thursday. The Wolfpack improves to 2-3 on the season, after back-to-back victories over Appalachian St. and now the Spiders. Banada has won three straight singles matches, all at No. 3, with his 6-0, 6-4 win over Matthew Cabana. Murray is now 2-2 at No. 1, and 3-2 overall in singles play after his 7-5, 6-3 victory over Niki Doll. Will Shaw pushed his record to 2-3 with a 7-5, 6-2 win over David Donn.
Banada and Murray teamed to dominate at No. 1 doubles, picking up the 8-3 decision over Doll and Cabana. Rehman Esmail, who also won his singles match 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5, teamed with Jon Davis to secure the doubles point with an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles. Shaw and Chris Mills nearly made it a doubles sweep, falling 9-8 (1) at No. 3.
NC State travels to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks on Saturday for the start of a three match road trip. The men's tennis team returns home on February 26 to host UNC Greensboro at 2:00pm.
