No. 22 Wolfpack Men's Tennis Puts Away Charlotte, 6-1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The No. 22 NC State men's tennis team returned to its winning ways on Saturday, March 18, taking the first of two road matches on the day at Charlotte, 6-1. The Pack swept doubles play before taking five of six singles decisions to collect the team victory. With the win, NC State advances to 15-3 (0-2 ACC), while the 49ers fall to 7-10.
The Pack grabbed wins at all three doubles positions to collect the advantage point at the onset of play. Seniors Val Banada and Will Shaw, currently ranked No. 50 nationally in doubles play, took down Dorian Host and Roy Sichel, 8-3, at No. 1. Junior William Noblitt and sophomore Ben Zink followed at No. 2 with a win, 8-3, over Felix Bernhoerster and Ryan Johnson. Freshman combo Jay Weinacker and Chris Welte completed the clean sweep at No. 3, knocking off Stuart Lynas and Jonathan Vencatachellum, 8-5.
In singles play, NC State flew past Charlotte, winning at five spots. Sophomore Nick Cavaday, currently ranked No. 63 in singles, downed Johnson at No. 2, 6-3, 6-0, while Noblitt turned away Host, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3. Banada grabbed a win over Zvi Lantsberg, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4, while Shaw beat Vencatachelum at No. 6, 7-5, 6-2. Weinacker notched his team-best 15th singles win at No. 5 over Lynas, 6-3, 6-2. Junior Andre Iriarte suffered the Pack's lone singles defeat of the day, falling at No. 1, 6-3, 6-0, to No 83 Roy Sichel.
NC State will return to the courts later today, Saturday, March 18, with a second road match at Davidson. Play is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
