Men's Tennis Shuts Out Boston College, 7-0

DEDHAM, Mass. - The NC State men's tennis team collected its first ACC shutout win of the season with a 7-0 sweep of Boston College Friday afternoon at the Dedham Health & Athletic Complex. The Wolfpack won the doubles point and did not drop a set in singles play en route to winning all six singles matches.
In doubles play, the Wolfpack's (13-8, 6-3 ACC) 10th-ranked duo of Dave Thomson and Sean Weber defeated the Eagles' (5-12, 0-7 ACC) Billy Grokenberger and Matt Wagner, 8-4, at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. The Pack clinched the doubles point when Beck Bond and Austin Powell topped Kyle Childree and Alex Thirouin at the No. 3 spot, 8-4. Boston College won the match at No. 2 doubles as Robbie Mudge and Thomas Weigel fell to Michael McGinnis and Philip Nelson, 8-3.
After clinching the doubles point to lead 1-0 heading into singles play, the Pack proceeded to win all six singles matches, marking the third time it has accomplished the feat this season. Powell defeated Nelson at the top spot in the lineup, 7-6 (8), 6-3, while Mudge topped McGinnis, 6-4, 6-3. Thomson emerged victorious in his match against Childree at the No. 3 spot in the lineup, 6-2, 6-2.
At the No. 4 spot, State's Weigel eased past Grokenberger, 6-3, 6-2. Weber defeated Wagner, 6-3, 6-4, and Bond topped Thirouin, 6-3, 6-2, at the six spot in the lineup.
NC State will return to action in its regular season finale Sunday, April 21, when it travels to Duke for a 1 p.m. match.
