Men's Tennis Falls in Regular Season Finale at No. 10 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. - The NC State men's tennis team dropped its regular season finale at No. 10 Duke, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Ambler Tennis Stadium.
The Wolfpack (13-9, 6-4 ACC) found itself in an early 1-0 deficit after the Blue Devils (21-4, 9-1 ACC) won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Duke's 17th-ranked pair of Michael Redlicki and Jason Tahir collected the first win in doubles as they edged State's Robbie Mudge and Thomas Weigel, 8-5, at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Duke clinched the doubles point when the 60th-ranked tandem of Chris Mengel and Fred Saba defeated the Pack's Beck Bond and Austin Powell, 8-5, at the three spot in the lineup.
The matchup at the top spot in the doubles lineup featured a couple of ranked teams. Duke's Henrique Cunha and Raphael Hemmeler are ranked No. 2 in the doubles poll, while State's Dave Thomson and Sean Weber are No. 12. The two teams battled throughout the match, but Cunha and Hemmeler emerged victorious, 8-5.
In singles play, the Devils' fifth-ranked Cunha defeated Mudge, 6-1, 6-0, at the top spot in the lineup, while the Pack's Weber came up short against 70th-ranked Hemmeler, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 2 singles, Duke's Saba outlasted Powell, 6-3, 6-2, and Redlicki, ranked 47th in the singles poll, topped State's Thomson, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
Duke's Mengel won his match at the five spot in the lineup against Weigel, 7-5, 6-4. In the final match of the day, State's Bond came up short against Tahir, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (6)
NC State will now await the announcement of the tournament pairings for the ACC Championship starting Thursday, April 25, at the Cary (N.C.) Tennis Park.
