Men's Tennis Falls to No. 14 Oklahoma in NCAA Championships

NORMAN, Okla. - The NC State men's tennis team saw its season come to a close on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Championships after suffering a 4-0 loss to the 14th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners.
The Sooners gained an early 1-0 advantage in the match after winning the doubles point. Guillermo Alcorta and Axel Alvarez teamed up to defeat the Wolfpack's Beck Bond and Austin Powell, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles. Oklahoma clinched the point when Costin Paval and Dane Webb outlasted State's Dave Thomson and Sean Weber at the top spot in the doubles lineup, 8-3.
In singles play, the Sooners added to their lead as Alvarez defeated Thomson, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot in the lineup. Oklahoma's Alcorta followed with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Powell at the second spot in the lineup to push the lead to 3-0 in the overall match.
Webb clinched the match for Oklahoma with a win at the No. 4 spot in the lineup, as he topped Bond, 6-4, 6-0.
While the loss ends the season for the Wolfpack as a team, Thomson and Weber have been invited to play in the NCAA Doubles Championship draw, which will convene from May 23-27 in Urbana, Ill., after the conclusion of the team championship.
