Pack Completes Day Two of UVA Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Sophomore Austin Powell and Junior Sean Weber advanced to the third place match in their respective brackets after collecting wins at the UVA Ranked +1 Invitational on Saturday.
Powell defeated Conner Glennon of Memphis 3-6, 6-3, 7-6, before falling to Virginia's Ryan Shane 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1. Weber opened the day with a win over Alex Van Gils of George Washington 7-5, 6-7, 6-1, but dropped his second match of the day to Ben Davis of Middle Tennessee State, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Junior Rafael Paez also went 1-1 on the day, topping UNC Wilmington's Kosta Blank, 5-7, 6-2, 6-0. In his second match, the Pack junior won the first set, 6-4, before falling in the second and third sets 7-5, 6-2, respectively.
After making his debut on Friday, freshman Thomas Weigel faced stiff competition on Saturday taking on No. 70 Sebastian Stiefelmeyer (Louisville) and No. 82 David O'Leary (Memphis). Weigel fell to Stiefelmeyer, 6-0, 6-7 (5), 6-1, but rebounded to defeat O'Leary 7-5, 6-1.
In doubles play, Powell and Weber fell to Alex Scheinman and Mitchell Palnet of Virginia, 8-3, while Paez and Weigel were downed by Penn State Russell Bader and Roman Trkulja, 8-4.
Weber will return to action on Sunday at 9 a.m., while Powell will play at 11 a.m., in the third place match of their brackets. Paez will compete in the consolation third place match beginning at 10:30 a.m.
