    Day 2 Results

    WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior Rafael Paez collected two wins on Saturday to advance to the consolation finals of the A2 singles bracket at the Wake Forest Invitational. Paez defeated Shea Thomas of Liberty 6-4, 6-2 and Furman's No. 78-ranked Andrew Mellow, 2-6, 6-0, 6-2.

    In bracket A1 of singles play, freshman Simon Norenius opened the day with a victory over North Carolina's Stuart Depaolo, 6-2, 6-4. Norenius dropped his second match of the day to Elon's Robert Lindgren, 6-4, 7-6 (3). Senior Dave Thomson defeated Randy Phillips of UNC Greensboro, 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (6), in his first match, and fell to No. 111 Fred Saba of Duke, 6-3, 6-2, in the semifinals. 

    Paez was joined in the A2 singles bracket by freshman Thomas Weigel who fell to UNC Greensboro's Jimmy Doughtery, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. Weigel rebounded in his second match to defeat Dante Terenzio of Old Dominion, 6-3, 6-3.

    Freshman Trey Carter competed in singles bracket 'B' and fell to Wake Forest's Sam Bloom, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, in his first match on Saturday and dropped his second match to Sam Williams of UNC Wilmington, 6-1, 7-5.

    In doubles play, Thomson and Norenius fell to UNC Wilmington's Rafael Aita and Williams, 8-5. Carter and Weigel dropped their match to Jon Ho and Anthony Delcore of Wake Forest, 8-5. 


     

     

    Tournament play will continue on Sunday, Oct. 14 with doubles action at 9 a.m., followed by singles play.
