    Paez, Bond To Play For Bracket Titles at Crimson Tide Fall Championships

    TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –Two NC State men’s tennis players, junior Rafael Paez and freshman Beck Bond, will play for bracket titles Sunday at the Crimson Tide Fall Championships, a three-day tournament consisting of nine 16-player championship brackets at the Alabama Tennis Center.

    Paez, a junior from Atibaia, Brazil, advanced to the finals of the Musso bracket with three consecutive wins on Friday and Saturday.

    Paez won his opening match over Dauw Kruger of South Alabama on Friday, 6-4, 6-0, when rainy weather forced the schedule to be revamped. He came back to win two more matches on Saturday, defeating Austin Smith of Ball State, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0, and Robbie Aru of Furman, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

    Paez will play Alabama’s Michael Thompson for the Musso bracket championship on Sunday morning.

    Bond, a freshman from Meriden, Conn., lost his opening round match on Friday, but won a pair of matches in the Hannah consolation bracket, beating Joe Davidson of Boston College and Ryan Miller of Furman. He will play Ball State’s Alex Doherty Sunday morning at 11 a.m. in the consolation bracket finals.

    Freshman Robbie Mudge of Mooresville, N.C., won his opening match on Friday, a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Ball State’s Alex Brym, then lost his second match to Dimitri Rappaccioli of Tulane, 6-4, 6-2.
