Men's Tennis Set for Big Ten Road Trip
Jan. 30, 2014
RALEIGH, N.C. - The 35th-ranked NC State men's tennis team is set for two matches against Big Ten foes Indiana and Michigan this weekend. The Wolfpack will square off against 57th-ranked Indiana at 2 p.m. ET. on Friday, Jan. 31 in Bloomington, Ind., before playing a noon match on Super Bowl Sunday against 26th-ranked Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich.
"For the first couple weeks of the season, we're on the road a little bit more and most of the teams we play are top-25 teams," said head coach Jon Choboy. "This weekend will be good for us. I think it'll help prepare us for the tough matches in the ACC. We're looking forward to competing in both of these matches this weekend."
The upcoming matches will be the second consecutive weekend of road matches the Pack will face. Last weekend, NC State traveled to Knoxville, Tenn., to compete in the ITA kick-off weekend, suffering a 4-3 defeat to VCU and sweeping Michigan State, 4-0.
Indiana enters Friday's match with a 1-2 record after suffering a 9-0 setback to top-ranked Virginia on the final day of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Friday will mark the 11th all-time meeting between the Wolfpack and Hoosiers, with Indiana leading the overall series. Last year, the Pack defeated Indiana, 4-3, in Raleigh.
Michigan enters the weekend with a 3-1 ledger, after dropping its most recent match to No. 22 Illinois on the final day of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. NC State has a 2-1 series advantage against Michigan. The programs last met in 2010, as the Pack defeated Michigan, 4-3, in Raleigh.
