Men's Tennis Readies for Weekend in Virginia
Feb. 14, 2013 NC State (4-3) vs. William & Mary (2-2) NC State (4-3) vs. VCU (6-3) RALEIGH, N.C. - The 34th-ranked NC State men's tennis team will travel to Virginia to face the College of William & Mary on Friday, Feb. 15 and No. 30 Virginia Commonwealth on Saturday, Feb. 16. Friday's match will begin at 4 p.m. in Williamsburg, Va., and the first serve for Saturday's match is set for 2 p.m. in Richmond, Va. "We're looking forward to another road trip and facing some good competition," said head coach Jon Choboy. "We're pretty healthy this time around and the guys are looking forward to it, so that will definitely be a positive. "It's always challenging playing back-to-back days," Choboy said. "Our guys are well-conditioned, so playing two days in a row shouldn't be a problem for us." Three members of Choboy's squad moved into the ITA National Rankings this week, including sophomore Austin Powell, senior Dave Thomson and junior Sean Weber. Powell ranks No. 125 in the singles rankings, while Thomson and Weber are the 41st-ranked duo in doubles. "Being ranked is a by-product of playing well and doing so against good competition," Choboy added. "We've played a lot of ranked players and teams, so the guys are getting a lot of opportunities. As they succeed they will continue to move up in the rankings."
VCU has two ranked players, No. 14 Max Wennakoski and No. 93 Alexis Heugas. The Rams also have two ranked doubles pairs, No. 37 Alexis Huegas and Dylan McCloskey, and No. 38 Alejandro Argente and Jamie Vazquez Catoira. William & Mary also features a ranked player, as the Tribe is led by Ben Guthrie, ranked No. 103. Series Records: Last Time Out: Last Meeting: |
