Men's Tennis Readies for Match at Northwestern

RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 27 NC State men’s tennis team is set to return to action when the squad travels to Evanston, Ill., to face No. 29 Northwestern on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. ET.
Last time out, the Wolfpack defeated East Carolina, 7-2, in its first outdoor match of the dual season on Tuesday at the Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium. State won the opening doubles point for the seventh time this season and posted five straight set victories in singles.
This season, the Pack has fared well with a 3-0 mark against opposing Big Ten teams. The squad has posted victories against Michigan St. (Jan. 26), Indiana (Jan. 31) and Michigan (Feb. 2).
Northwestern enters Sunday’s match with an 8-4 mark this season, after falling at No. 24 Harvard, 4-3, on Friday. Sam Stropshire (No. 81) and Raleigh Smith (No. 111) lead the Wildcats in the singles rankings.
State and Northwestern will play for the fourth consecutive season and the sixth time in the all-time series, as the Wildcats defeated the Pack, 4-3, last season in Raleigh. NC State last recorded a victory in the series with a 7-0 win in Evanston on Feb. 25, 2012. State leads the all-time series, 3-2.
