No. 36 Men's Tennis Shuts Out No. 52 Louisville
Raleigh, N.C. - The No. 36 NC State men's tennis team downed No. 52 Louisville, 7-0, on Sunday, Feb. 25 at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C. After securing the doubles point, the Wolfpack went on to win all six singles bouts, improving the team to 9-1 on the season. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 6-7.
Juniors Nick Cavaday and Ben Zink were quick to collect their doubles win over James McArthur and Robert Rotaru, 8-4, at No. 1. Freshman James McGee and sophomore Jay Weinacker secured the Pack's 10th doubles point of the season with a win over Slavko Radman and David Simon, 8-5, at No. 2. Senior William Noblitt and sophomore Christian Welte fell in the tiebreaker for the final doubles match to Damar Johnson and Chris Herrlinger, 8-7 (5), at No. 3.
After gaining a 1-0 lead, the red and white swept all the singles matches in the fourth shutout this season for the Pack. Noblitt was the first to grab a singles point after downing Rotaru, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3, and senior Andre Iriarte quickly followed, defeating Simon, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4.
Cavaday kept the Pack perfect at the No. 1 slot and secured the win after knocking down his third ranked opponent, No. 40 Radman, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1. McGee downed Johnson in the third-set tiebreak, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 1 (10-5), at No. 2, and Weinacker overwhelmed Horatiu Oltean at 6-1, 6-4, at No. 5.
Welte completed the 7-0 win by finishing off Kenneth Nordheim, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6.
The Wolfpack returns to the courts on Saturday, March 3 with a double header at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on the NC State campus. The red and white will take on Navy at 10 a.m. and Charlotte at 2 p.m.
