March 13, 2014
RALEIGH, N.C. - The 25th-ranked NC State men's tennis team is slated to return to the courts on Friday, March 14 to take on No. 11 North Carolina. First serve is set for 4 p.m. at the Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium.
"Naturally there is a tremendous rivalry between us and North Carolina, especially in recent history," said head coach Jon Choboy. "We've gone back and forth with them over the past couple of years. Our guys are looking forward to the challenge."
Last weekend saw the Wolfpack go 2-1 overall, as the squad closed its non-conference schedule with a pair of victories against Appalachian State and No. 74 Winthrop on Friday. The Pack opened its conference slate with a loss against No. 10 Duke on Sunday.
The Tar Heels come to Raleigh with a 13-2 overall record and a No. 11 ranking in the most recent ITA poll. UNC was last in action on Sunday, as the squad edged then-No. 7 Texas, 4-3, before defeating Longwood, 7-0. Friday's match will be UNC's first conference dual match of the season.
NC State and UNC last met on the tennis court on March 15, 2013 in Chapel Hill, N.C., where the Wolfpack opened its ACC schedule with a 6-1 victory. Friday's contest will mark the 65th all-time meeting between the two programs, as UNC holds the series advantage.
The match against UNC will also be Western Wake Tennis Association Day (WWTA), where a clinic with the team will be raffled to members of the WWTA in attendance.
Fans attending the match are urged to park in the West Deck, which can be accessed off of Varsity Drive.
