Men's Tennis Travels to Clemson, Georgia Tech

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State men's tennis team will travel south this weekend for a pair of matchups against No. 15 Clemson and Georgia Tech. The Wolfpack will face the Tigers Friday, Mar. 22, at 3 p.m., before taking on the Yellow Jackets Sunday, Mar. 24, at noon.
The Wolfpack (7-6, 1-1 ACC) will compete in its second weekend of conference play, after opening the ACC portion of its schedule with a 6-1 win against UNC in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Pack won the doubles point, before winning five of six matches in singles play. Sunday, the Pack suffered its first conference loss of the season against No. 24 Wake Forest, 5-2.
State's 12th-ranked doubles duo of Dave Thomson and Sean Weber will face its toughest opponents to this point in the season when they take the court Friday against Clemson's 11th-ranked doubles tandem of Dominique Maden and Yannick Maden, before challenging Georgia Tech's fourth-ranked pair of Vikram Hundal and Juan Spir.
NC State boasts a combined record of 26-10 at the three, four and six spots in the singles lineup, including a 9-2 mark at the No. 6 spot. In all seven wins, the Pack has won its match at the No. 4 spot in the lineup and is 7-1 on the season when winning the match in that spot.
Scouting Clemson: The Clemson Tigers enter Friday's contest with a record of 13-2, including a 2-0 mark in conference play. The Tigers opened ACC play with a pair of 4-3 road wins against Miami and Florida State. Clemson is led by the 41st-ranked singles player Yannick Maden, who boasts a team-best 19 wins on the season. They also have a doubes pair ranked 11th in Dominique Maden and Yannick Maden.
Last Meeting: The Wolfpack won the last meeting between the two teams, taking a 4-3 decision against the Tigers in Raleigh on Apr. 15, 2012.
Scouting Georgia Tech: The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets approach Sunday's match slightly under .500 for the season, with a 7-8 record on the season and 0-2 mark in the ACC. Last weekend the Tigers suffered two tough 4-3 losses against Florida State and at Miami. Senior Juan Spir ranks 84th in the latest ITA poll, while Spir and Virkram Hundal are ranked fourth in doubles.
Last Meeting: NC State claimed a hard-fought 4-3 win against the Yellow Jackets in Raleigh on Apr. 13, 2012. The Pack dropped the doubles point, but fought back to win four matches in singles play.
