No. 20 Men's Tennis to Face Boston College, Maryland
RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 20 NC State men's tennis team will hit the road over the weekend, continuing league play with two ACC bouts. State will take on Boston College on Friday, March 30, at 6 p.m., before battling No. 51 Maryland on Sunday, April 1, at 12 p.m.
The Pack enters the weekend with a 16-5 (1-3 ACC) record after falling at No. 21 Duke (5-2) on Wednesday, March 28. Nick Cavaday remains ranked at No. 38 nationally in singles play, while Cavaday and teammate William Noblitt are ranked No. 11 in doubles. Christian Welte leads the team in wins with an 18-2 slate.
Boston College is 4-12 (0-5 ACC) after dropping six straight decisions. The Eagles stand as the only team in the ACC not ranked. A year ago the Pack shut out BC (7-0) in Raleigh. NC State owns the all-time series between the two schools, 4-0.
No. 51 Maryland carries a 10-4 (2-3 ACC) record after dropping Boston College and falling to Florida State and Miami last week. David Kwon leads the Terps with a 9-3 mark, while Scott Fink follows closely behind at 8-2. The Wolfpack topped Maryland last year in Raleigh (6-1), despite losing the doubles point to open play. NC State leads the all-time series, 31-27.
Following this weekend's action, the Pack will continue league play with three ACC contests next week. State will host North Carolina on Wednesday, April 4, at 2 p.m. at the Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium on the NC State campus, before going back on the road. The Pack will then play at Georgia Tech at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 6, and Clemson at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 7.
