No. 23 Hokies Edge by No. 47 Pack 4-3
Blacksburg, Va. - With the doubles point won, the No. 47 NC State men's tennis team couldn't take advantage, losing 4-3 to No. 23 Virginia Tech on Sunday, April 11. The loss moves the Pack to 13-11 and the Hokies to 12-5.
The Pack got off to a great start by taking the doubles point. Dominic Hodgson and Frideric Prandecki beat No. 74 Sebastian Jacques and Yoann Re 8-5. Jaime Pulgar and Dave Thomson followed with an 8-4 win against Will Beck and Patrick Daciek to clinch the point. With doubles decided Akash Gujarati and Rob Lowe lost 8-7 to Luka Somen and Incerti Tocci.
After losing doubles the Hokies rattled off three straight singles victories. David Chermak lost 6-2, 6-3 to No. 117 Jacques. D. Thomson was beaten 6-4, 6-4 by Tocci, while Rafael Paez was defeated 6-1, 7-5 by Daciek.
No. 70 Pulgar responded with a 6-1, 6-4 win over No. 38 Re. Hodgson couldn't get past No. 61 Somen, losing 6-3, 6-2 to give the Hokies the win. Lowe took down Beck, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 to close out the day.
The Pack returns home to take on Maryland on Friday, April 16 at 2:30 pm, followed by Boston College on Sunday, April 18 at noon.
