No. 24 Men's Tennis Falls to No. 25 FSU, 5-2
Raleigh, N.C. - The No. 24 NC State men's tennis team fell to No. 25 Florida State, 5-2, on Friday, April 13, at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Complex in Raleigh, N.C. The Wolfpack was only able to collect two points in the singles bouts. With the loss, the Pack falls to 19-8 (4-6 ACC), and the Seminoles improve to 13-8 (5-5 ACC) on the season.
FSU was able to sweep all three doubles matches from NC State. The No. 21 doubles team of junior Nick Cavaday and senior William Noblitt were unable to hold on against Sam Chang and Jonathas Sucupira, falling 8-5 at No. 1. Ytai Abougzir and Bradley Mixson clinched the doubles point for the Seminoles with the win over freshman James McGee and sophomore Jay Weinacker, 8-6, at No. 2. Junior David Rozek and sophomore Christian Welte were defeated by Jean-Yves Aubone and Maciek Sykut, 8-5, at No. 3.
Chris Cloer grabbed the first singles point of the afternoon with the win over senior Andre Iriarte, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 6. Weinacker put the Pack on the board, downing Chang, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4.
After entering a third set, McGee fell to Sucupira, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3. Noblitt battled through two long sets, emerging on top over Sykut, 7-5, 6-6 (7-4), at No. 2.
Mixson sealed the win for Florida State, defeating Welte in the third set, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 5. No. 61 Cavaday fell soon after to No. 99 Abougzir, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 1.
NC State will host its last match of the season on Sunday, April 15. The Pack will take on Miami at 1 p.m. at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Complex. The match is also senior day for Noblitt and Iriarte, who will play for the last time on NC State's home courts.
