Pack Readies for NCAA Athens Regional
May 9, 2014
RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 26 NC State men's tennis team is set to begin its journey in the 2014 NCAA Men's Tennis Team Championships, as the Wolfpack will open the first-round against No. 44 Oregon in the Athens Regional. First serve between the Pack and Ducks is scheduled for Saturday, May 10 at 10 a.m. from the Dan Magill Tennis Complex at the University of Georgia.
The Pack makes its seventh overall NCAA appearance, including its fifth under the guidance of head coach Jon Choboy. For the first time in the history of the program, State will compete in the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive season dating back to the 2012 campaign. In the program's history, State has recorded four victories in the tournament and advanced to the quarterfinals in 2008.
The Ducks come into Saturday's match with a 17-9 record this season and a No. 44 listing in the latest ITA poll. NC State and Oregon have faced one common opponent this season in Duke, as the Blue Devils defeated the Ducks, 4-1 at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
A victory against the Ducks would ensure the Pack a spot in the second-round against either host Georgia, the top seed in the Regional and 10th overall seed, or Jacksonville State. The Wolfpack and Bulldogs have met six times on the tennis courts while the Pack and Jacksonville State have never played.
