NCAA Announces Singles and Doubles Draws

RALEIGH, N.C. – The draws for the 2014 NCAA Individual Championships were released Tuesday morning with the first round of singles set to begin Wednesday, May 21 and the first round of doubles set to be played Thursday, May 22 at the Dan Magiil Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Three representatives of the Wolfpack were selected into the singles and doubles field. In singles, junior Austin Powell earned an at-large bid into the 64-player field. Meanwhile, the tandem of Robbie Mudge and Ian Dempster were selected into the 32-team doubles competition.
Powell will participate in the NCAA Individual Championships for the first time in his career, as he is slated to face Jonny Wang of Southern California at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Powell recorded a 12-6 record throughout the fall season, which was highlighted by the junior advancing to the Round of 16 in the singles main draw at the 2013 ITA All-American Championships.
Dempster and Mudge will be competing in the NCAA Individual Championships for the first time in their respective careers, as the pair is set to face Baylor’s tandem of Patrick Pradella and Mate Zsiga when the tournament’s first round opens on Thursday. Dempster and Mudge currently sit second on the program’s all-time charts in victories during the spring with 20.
