RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men’s tennis coach Jon Choboy has announced the addition of Steve Smith to the coaching staff as volunteer assistant coach.
“We’re real excited to announce the addition of Steve Smith to our staff at NC State.” Choboy said. “I’ve known Steve [Smith] for about 25 years and the knowledge he brings to the game will help the development of our players.”
Smith brings a wealth of knowledge and teaching experience with him to NC State. Prior to State, Smith developed the first college accredited curriculum and degree plan designed to teach the game of tennis at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas.
Former players coached by Smith have been successful in all facets of the game and have won at each level of competitive tennis, including 12 students winning NCAA National Championships.
Throughout his career, Smith has worked with clubs, academies, universities, and associations and has taught in over forty states and thirty countries.
In addition, Smith has designed and developed two complimentary online courses, Tennis Intelligence Applied and the Great Base Initiative.
“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to work with the tennis team,” Smith said. “I’ve been indirectly involved in college tennis for a long time. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to be apart of competitive tennis.”
