Men's Tennis Releases 2012-13 Schedule
Aug. 20, 2012
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men’s tennis head coach Jon Choboy has announced the program’s 2012-13 schedule. The Wolfpack will compete in 10 tournaments during the fall portion and then an additional tournament before beginning dual matches in the spring.
“The schedule is going to be different this year in some ways than it has in the past,” said Choboy. “We’ve played a number of double headers, but we do not have any this year which will allow us to play more competitive teams.”
State will face 15 teams that finished last season ranked in the final polls, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Four of those teams were in the final top-25.
“It’s a very strong schedule,” Choboy said. “It might be one of the strongest schedule’s we’ve had.”
The Pack will begin the season by hosting its first of three open tournaments, Labor Day weekend September 1-3. The other two open tournaments will be held October 5-7 and 26-28.
Last season, NC State finished with a 20-10 record with five wins against conference opponents.
The Wolfpack advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in program history and the third time under Coach Choboy.
Robbie Mudge and Austin Powell are two of the top-returning players, who both saw action in the lineup as the No. 1 or No. 2 player. Mudge finished the season with 20 wins, the second most wins posted by a freshman just shy of Jay Weinacker with 23 in 2006. Powell recorded 16 wins last season, the second most among returners behind Mudge.
